Over 20 years online for me. Maybe even 25.
Wow. Doesn’t seem that long ago. I guess that is how it works as one gets older.
All the cool stuff that someone like me could find and do on what we now call On-Line. Back then it was BBS – Bulletin Board Systems. But they had relay mail, and your message would be sent out around the BBS out there, and you’d get back some responses, in a day or so. Then the ‘Internet’ got started, and around 1995 I started to move off the BBS thing, totally by ’96 or ’97. Then there was ActiveWorlds and then OuterWorlds online chatting in 3D landscapes, with ‘building’ if you wanted!
Soon after were in-person meetings and get togethers. Tons of fun.
And here we are, with a lone world in AW that no one visits except perhaps late at night once in a while.
And the world thinks it has moved to Twitter and Facebook, if you watch TV. I’m sure your kids have found something else and only put enough on Facebook to let you think that is where they are.
Oh well.
