Spam spam, wonderful spam…

Ya gotta love Blog Spammers!
I really loved this one. Get out the dictionary, folks!
You’ll also need your grammar and logic suspension medications, too!
(Oh, this will probably prompt more spam. Bugger.)

One Alleged Comment:

“Innovative, they studied to be taught that filing lawsuits is not the action gap to wind-up piracy. As an prerogative, it’s to skiff something flaunt than piracy. Like ingenuousness of use. It’s indubitably a huge numbers easier to utter iTunes than to search the Internet with risk of malware and then crappy character, but if people are expected to surrejoinder an lustfulness to loads and weather sadness of to against ages, it’s not bourgeoning to work. They exactly would passively use a squat without dally if ever people cut software and Cobweb sites that direct it ridiculously tranquilly to picaroon, and up the quality. If that happens, then there isle of man deemster be no stopping piracy. But they’re too circumspect and horrified of losing. Risks suffer with to be enraptured!”

I mean, how could anyone mistake.. really… seriously…

USA in a handbasket?

“Well, Sonny, I remember when we actually used to MAKE stuff around here. But they moved the making part, so now we are just supposed to BUY stuff.”

Recently spotted news items, as well as personal experience, makes me worry for the USA.  All we do now is wage-slave for financial companies, and all our tech is off-shore.

I wonder if our plumbers and electricians are also finding everything they need is “Made in China”??

Getting a little annoying, isn’t it?

Sure, these are even nominally ‘American’ companies, right? Well, they have offices in some American city,  perhaps.

Truth is, what they want us to do is buy stuff, and for work I guess we can just clean toilets or something, rather than actually make something because we won’t work for starvation wages, or in sweatshops. BTW, I consider office cubes as the new sweatshop.
We are all wage slaves, except those in trades. Is anything made here anymore? Clothing, shoes, pots & pans.

What do you call a half-full/ Half-Pint of Half & Half?

I’m just thinking, is all.
Net Neutrality, (ComCrap/NBC), Taking down whole sites on allegations by corporate interests.
America in decline. The reason is we don’t make anything here, we only consume. We consume goods, people. Corporations (large, and getting larger) rule our world. Banks, manufacturing, you name it, everything is outsourced anywhere, just to get that bump on the stock market. Can one even buy a Made in America article of clothing that doesn’t cost way to much? Nope, all your clothing is made in China. Why don’t we at least TRY to retain some skills like that here?

I am disappointed at how this country has become a nation of ‘shoppers’ rather than ‘doers’, and it will only get worse, since anything invented here will be made elsewhere!

Thanksgiving to MS

Well, Win7 happened on my laptop, and it needed a clean-install, not an upgrade.
I think my laptop, (HP, which came with Vista) may have been the reason why I couldn’t do an ‘upgrade’. But of course I am better off doing the clean install. Yes, I have my backup CD’s, and I don’t give a rats-ass about the few files that got wiped out.
It has been interesting getting things to work as I want, though. I use an alternative to Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) and the 64-bit test version seems much better than using the older version on Vista.

Now that OuterWorlds is set up, I am cruising along with this thing.
Beware, though, that I don’t think Thunderbird is all that great (Outlook user) and I am sure many Apps will not transfer from Desktop-Laptop.

Win7, FiOS, or Bust!

Well, folks, this weekend in my condo complex I will be getting FiOS installed! Yep, no more ComCast! Almost 15 years for my internet cable modem, and 30 for TV (given all the buyouts – Cablevision to MediaOne to RoadRunner to AT&T to Comcast, and I may have missed one.)

The internet connection has been fun. Talk about service?
Including a year of intermittent failures eventually discovered to be due to the fact that someone had scraped all the insulation off the cable going into the building on my wire. It was found to literally drip water when disconnected outside. At one point there were three guys here. And then every few years, I call because if piss-poor reception on the TV’s, and they ALWAYS blame the F-connectors!!! And try to bill me for coming out! It is the same damned F-connectors THEY put in the LAST time they were out! Madness!
The best one was when I was waiting for them to show up, and saw the truck go by, and went downstairs. At the same time my phone rang, but I didn’t want to get into a call when Comcast was coming in. Then I saw the truck turn around and LEAVE! Yes, the call was from their office to confirm I was there! What ever happend to knocking on the fucking door!

With any luck, I will be getting Verizon FiOS on Saturday (Nov 6, 2010) and I can get a whole steaming pile of NEW horror stories about service and support.

It will be interesting to see if I notice any speed difference on the internet, or if the video clears up some of the pixelation and sound/picture drop-outs that occur with cable and its compression issues. Not holding my breath, on that.

At least I should save a few bucks a month, until the incumbent starts jacking up prices, too.

Win7 MIGHT happen while all this is installing! I figure I can do that hours-long clean install onto the laptop during the hours-long installation of FiOS.

Brick the Laptop, AND, have no TV service on the same weekend? I can see it coming…

It gets Win7 Better!

Went to BestBuy and replaced the DVD. Thankfully they had no problem with that. (Traffic was less forgiving. 20mph in a 25? 30 in a 45? Seriously?)
Anyway, the new disk failed as well, with BSOD rather than previous issues. After a BIOS update from HP, I am now back to the original issue.
I will now (after another chkdsk) remove whatever traces of the failed installs I can find and try one more freaking time-wasting time. And then I’ll try the clean install, and I will bet that it bricks the laptop.

Sadly, I had thought that I would eventually install on the old (this) XP desktop someday. HA!

Microsoft fails to deliver yet again. Money wasted.

Sent to MS today via Microsoft Answers website by me, a now disgruntled, former long time, customer:

Win7(64) Upgrade DVD Refuses to Upgrade Vista(64) Home Premium!  Error: Setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file

Seriously, why couldn’t this thing at least tell me WHAT file(s)???
64-bit to 64-bit, DVD. SHOULDN’T be an issue!

I bought the Family Pack Upgrade on Saturday (10/16/2010), so I could start with my Vista based HP Pavilion laptop (dv7) which really doesn’t have much on it. All patches are up to date.
I did have Office10 beta, but ran the remove programs on it. All patches are up to date.

I have done chkdsks on it, and even tried copying the DVD to the C drive. Mostly I get the “Setup cannot continue due to a corrupted installation file” which tells me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Great user experience folks! (If you want to go out of business.)

I am tired of spending time on this.

I have been upgrading Windows since Window came out, and have been through versions 2, 2.11, 3, 3.11, 95, and 98 up till now, not to mention Excel 2 and Office 4 through XP.

This is my LAST, FINAL attempt!

After 25 years this is what you have dreamed up? No wonder Google and Apple are eating your lunch, and hitting you in the head with your lunch box!

If there isn’t a simple solution, then this is my last copy of any Microsoft product EVER.

I finally got it further along than I’ve seen before, but it still fails. This is, perhaps, criminal – stealing my money under false pretenses. Perhaps.

Something tells me a bootleg version would install just fine. But maybe I am just annoyed beyond belief. One more time tomorrow.

Then 12 strikes and yer out!

How can I upgrade to Win7 if the upgrade process is Horseshit?

How can I upgrade to Win7 if the upgrade SUCKS?
A file it couldn’t Read? or Write? It doesn’t even say. All the searches online with the error talk about the download version. Bad CD writes, etc. Perhaps MS has the same Burner issues?
I use this Laptop maybe a few times a MONTH! And I can’t even do a an upgrade like this without unexplained issues? Madness!
I am now (and have been) running a chkdsk and will reboot, copy the dvd to a folder, and try again. Oh, it finished, and I couldn’t even get a screen of what it found. Stick a ‘Pause’ statement in, guys? Sheesh.
Further along than last time. Oh, wait. A message. A VISTA message? WTF?
When they say Win7 Home PREMIUM, they really mean HOME! You have to be home for days to get it to work. PREMIUM? Not so sure on this one yet…
FREAKING NITEMARE!
It stopped when I wasn’t looking, so I rebooted. Back into Vista. WTF!!!!???
5 hours and counting on this F&%$ING moronic alleged frigging ‘update’ that this machine would have had as a freebie had I waited two weeks?
And NOW, I’m starting ALL OVER AGAIN?
WHAT THE F*&&, *&^% *&^ Balmer *&^% Gates…
I do have Ubuntu 10.10 sitting here, just waiting, and I can’t spend any more time on this clusterfrak of an alleged ‘upgrade’
Working on the 5th attempt.
Given the week at work, (longer than normal processing times, and failures to pick up 2011 data) I grow tired of finding other companies elemental screw-ups. And I have been using Windows since almost version 1. (I had a copy of 1, but it was useless, so I used the virtual one that Excel 2 needed to use on a dos machine.)
Why did I think Microsoft would get this one right? Bloody press and on-line shills, that’s why.
Since this package is opened, I probably can’t probably return this trash to the store.
What is the point on having an upgrade if it doesn’t frigging work?
Where it will most likely fail again. Then I will spend untold hours calling MS to try to figure out why a disk from Best Buy, made in Puerto Rico won’t upgrade my laptop. Laptop purchased about 2 weeks short of the free upgrade, btw, and this is now 2010, and this crap STILL doesn’t work and is a complete Cluster when trying it? No wonder no one under 30 even tries this crap!
=-=-=
Balmy Ballmer needs to go….
This nightmare – the upgrade that doesn’t work – on a machine with very little, just shows how clueless Microsoft has become.
HOURS wasted trying to upgrade a laptop I bought two weeks before Win7 shipped refuses to upgrade to Win7 from Vista. Home Premium.
I find this unconscionable,
I understand that installing an OS takes time,, but to have to make the attempt over 4 times is ridiculous.
Attempt # 5 is in progress….

Comcast strikes out

In the middle of a few bad days at work, I managed to sign up for FiOS at the roll-out (after months of digging up streets in the condo complex) and and then worked from home for 3 hours last night.

Now what did I get home to this evening?
Everything was out when I got home! How did they find out so fast about FiOS?

Good thing it wasn’t last night!

Apparently it is an area outage. The Comcast rep cannot tell me how big, how long or when it started, of course. In the old days, they would have more information available, and I am thinking MediaOne perhaps, and say that a head-end went out or something.
At least I will get a day’s credit. Wow.

One thing about an outage like this is that you get to see what software can handle the lack of connectivity. Some things used to scream about not being able to phone home every minute or two. Things seems to have improved on that score at least.

And it is obviously back up.

Timing was just so, um, Odd, though.

You can’t go home again

No, even if you can, don’t. Go Home Again
Well, I was researching a comment from Gayla, and found that I had been remiss in stating that all the Old RabidWolf site that was needed for a complete ‘Yearbook’ recreation was already available.
Trying to check, I realized that links to this 2002 event were missing. So I went on a little tour of my own copies and backups, and found it, Finally.
But, it is distressing to realize that something you wrote is now over 8 years old, and the presentation isn’t that swift, either. And what other parts are missing?
Oh well.
Grins,
RW
